About

Following his admission to the bar in 1983, Jim practiced law in Lexington and Central Kentucky for more than 20 years in a family law firm with a general trial and appellate civil practice in the areas of employment, civil rights and discrimination, personal injury and negligence, and an active general practice in the areas of corporate and business, oil & gas, administrative, real estate, and wills and probate. In 2005, he joined a small Nicholasville firm where he continued his general corporate and business, employment, and discrimination practices, but began focusing on the representation of clients in the healthcare and railroad industries. That work consisted largely of trial and appellate practice involving medical negligence and wrongful death, personal injury, and railroad crossing and FELA claims.

Jim now serves as Counsel to RGCM, adding to the firm’s litigation practice areas his experience in civil litigation at all stages of the litigation process in both the state and federal court systems. He has handled the defense of over a decade’s worth of railroad crossing, FELA, and other railroad related claims. He has also been responsible, personally as counsel of record and by directing the work of others, of well over 100 medical malpractice, deliberate indifference, and/or wrongful death claims. He has significant experience with general corporate and business matters, counseling his clients on employment issues and everyday business transactions and operations, and he regularly advises and provides representation on business disputes involving contract claims, employment, and discrimination, both in the legal and administrative fora.

Jim is admitted to practice before the courts of the Commonwealth of Kentucky, the United States District Courts for the Eastern and Western Districts of Kentucky, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. He is a member of the Fayette County and Kentucky Bar Associations.

Jim has been selected as a Kentucky Super Lawyer® for 2017 – 2024.

He received his J.D. from the University Kentucky College of Law in 1983, and he attended Wake Forest University, Winston-Salem, North Carolina, and Miami University, Oxford, Ohio, before earning a B.A. in Political Science from the University of Kentucky in 1980.
